USB C to DisplayPort 2.1 Cable: UHBR20 80Gbps, 16K & 4K@480Hz Gaming

October 7, 2026

Quick Answer / Summary: A USB C to DisplayPort 2.1 cable is a next-generation video interconnect certified for UHBR (Ultra-High Bit Rate) protocols, delivering unprecedented bandwidths of 40Gbps (UHBR10), 54Gbps (UHBR13.5), and up to 80Gbps (UHBR20). It drives uncompressed 8K@120Hz HDR, 4K@240Hz/480Hz, and 16K@60Hz with zero latency, full 12-bit color, and advanced panel replay technology.

The release of the VESA DisplayPort 2.1 specification marks a massive generational leap in display bandwidth, tripling previous data rates to handle extreme-refresh OLED gaming displays and massive 8K/16K visualization walls. An advanced USB C to DisplayPort 2.1 cable unlocks Ultra-High Bit Rate (UHBR) transmission directly from next-generation graphics cards and USB4/Thunderbolt 5 host ports.

Ultra-High Bit Rate (UHBR) Physical Layer Architecture

DisplayPort 2.1 over USB-C transitions from 8b/10b encoding to ultra-efficient 128b/132b line coding, providing a 97% payload efficiency. In a 4-lane UHBR20 configuration, each differential pair operates at 20.0 Gbps, producing an aggregate raw bandwidth of 80 Gbps and an effective payload of 77.37 Gbps. This unprecedented pipe carries pristine 8K@120Hz uncompressed HDR video without requiring lossy color subsampling.

DP40 and DP80 Cable Construction Standards

VESA defines strict physical layer requirements for DisplayPort 2.1: 1. DP40: Guarantees at least 40 Gbps across passive runs up to 2 meters; 2. DP80: Requires ultra-precise impedance matching (85 ohms ±5%), heavy silver-plated copper conductors, and individualized laser-welded micro-coaxial shielding to sustain 80 Gbps across full desktop distances.

Panel Replay and Adaptive-Sync Enhancements

DisplayPort 2.1 introduces Panel Replay, which only updates portions of the screen that change between frames, reducing host GPU power consumption by up to 50% on connected gaming laptops while maintaining zero-lag Adaptive-Sync gaming.

Next-Gen Gaming Monitors (4K 240Hz/480Hz OLEDs)

Designed for cutting-edge OLED gaming monitors from ASUS, Samsung, and LG, this cable delivers fluid motion clarity at 4K@240Hz and 1440p@480Hz with G-Sync compatibility.

DisplayPort 2.1 Bandwidth Tier Comparison

Bandwidth Tier	Raw Line Speed	Effective Data Rate	Maximum Resolution / Refresh Rate
DisplayPort 1.4 (Legacy)	32.4 Gbps	25.92 Gbps	4K @ 144 Hz / 8K @ 60 Hz (with DSC)
DP 2.1 UHBR10	40.0 Gbps	38.69 Gbps	8K @ 60 Hz (Uncompressed 4:4:4)
DP 2.1 UHBR13.5	54.0 Gbps	52.22 Gbps	8K @ 75 Hz / 4K @ 240 Hz (Uncompressed)
DP 2.1 UHBR20	80.0 Gbps	77.37 Gbps	16K @ 60 Hz / 8K @ 120 Hz / 4K @ 480 Hz

Real-World Application Scenarios

Connecting high-end gaming laptops and next-gen GPUs to 4K 240Hz/480Hz OLED gaming monitors, professional 8K HDR color-grading suites, and multi-display virtual production stages.
